Abstract

PADOVANI CANTON, Antonio Manuel. Outcomes Indicators for the assessment of service quality in Intensive Care Units. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.3, pp.441-452. ISSN 1561-3194.

Indicators for measuring the quality elements in an intensive care unit were created. These indicators are prone to generalization and easily applied, remain valid in different environments, and reflect the reality of the quality elements in the unit in which they are applied. They were used to assess the quality of the critical patient care process in one unit of Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Hospital of Pinar del Río, being validated in that unit and applied in another center, where it also proved useful. These indicators were based on international experience, as no national references were found; they were created by taking into account the characteristics of the health care system. The results of its application will be presented in subsequent papers. The present includes only the outcomes indicators.

Keywords : Health care quality indicators; Intensive care; Quality management.
