Introduction: the new millennium becomes population ageing into one of the greatest challenges to modern societies. Objective: to characterize the behavior of oral health in the elderly living in an old-people home, Pinar del Río. Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with the elderly living an old-people home, Pinar del Río municipality during October 2013. Variables were determined and a survey was applied. Out of the 40 old people living in the institution, 36 of them were analyzed during the investigation period. Results: it was found that the age group between 80 and 89 years (44.4%) was the most representative; 91.6% did not attend to dentistry office, 17 lived alone and 11 showed no motivation for attending to the dental office; 63.8% were totally edentulous, the other group partially; 66.6% were rehabilitated, mostly without prostheses correction. Conclusions: males and the group of 80-89 years predominated. The generality of patients did not visit the dentist for a year or more. The elderly who live accompanied showed full motivation for attending to the dentistry office, the fact of living unaccompanied inhibited them to attend to this health service. The majority needed prosthetic treatment.
