Introducción:

la enfermedad cerebrovascular produce importantes limitaciones, discapacidades y constituye una de las principales causas de morbilidad y mortalidad en el mundo.

Objetivo:

describir la mortalidad por enfermedad cerebrovascular en el Hospital General Docente “Abel Santamaría Cuadrado” de Pinar del Río en el período 2015 a 2017.

Métodos:

se realizó una investigación descriptiva retrospectiva. El universo se constituyó por todos los pacientes fallecidos en el periodo estudiado (U=3 484), y la muestra por los fallecidos debido a enfermedades cerebrovasculares (n=814). Para la obtención de la información se revisaron los expedientes clínicos y el registro de fallecidos en el departamento de estadística. Se elaboró una ficha para la recolección de datos, se recogieron las variables: mortalidad por años, edad, sexo, modalidad de enfermedad cerebrovascular y factores de riesgo.

Resultados:

no existieron diferencias en cuanto al sexo, fueron más frecuente los grupos de 60 a 69 y de 70 a 79 años. Predominó el infarto cerebral aterotrombótico en mayores de 70 años. La hipertensión arterial, la enfermedad cerebrovascular previo, cardiopatía isquémica y diabetes mellitus, fueron los factores de riesgos presentes en más de la mitad de los fallecidos.

Conclusiones:

la mortalidad por accidentes cerebrovasculares asociados a hipertensión arterial y diabetes mellitus tuvo un comportamiento similar en los diferentes años y sexo, con tendencia a elevarse en edades avanzadas, a medida que aumentan los años de vida, aumenta los factores de riesgos asociados a esta patología.

to describe the mortality rate due to cerebrovascular disease at Abel Santamaría Cuadrado General Teaching Hospital in Pinar del Río between 2015 and 2017.

Methods:

a retrospective and descriptive research was conducted. The target group included all patients who died in the period studied (U=3 484), and the sample comprised those who died as a cause of cerebrovascular diseases (n=814). In order to obtain the information, the clinical records and registry of deaths in the statistics department were reviewed; where a card to collect the data and variables was designed: mortality rate by year, age, sex, type of cerebrovascular disease and risk factors.

Results:

there were no differences in sex; the groups from 60 to 69 years old and from 70 to 79 showed the highest frequency. Atherothrombotic brain infarction predominated in those over 70 years old. High blood pressure, previous cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease and diabetes mellitus were the risk factors present in more than the half of the deceased.

Conclusions:

the mortality rate due to cerebrovascular accidents associated with hypertension and diabetes mellitus had a similar behavior throughout the different period of years and it affected the same sex with a tendency of increasing in advanced ages, as the years of life raised, the risk factors associated with this pathology also increased.
