Introduction:

Methods:

a qualitative and historical study was carried out with the application of theoretical and empirical methods.

Development:

between 1984-1985 and 2009-2011, important factors coincided, which subsequently generated significant development stages in the specialty. In the approximately 40 years that have elapsed since its materialization, there has been a significant increase in the number of first and second degree specialists, members of the group with main teaching ranks and academic degree, categorized researchers, and a revitalization of scientific production. The following are identified as the main impacts: the enrichment of the cultural heritage of a new medical specialty in the province, the contribution of the pedagogical master's degree to the teaching process of a significant number of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the participation in the training of human resources for healthcare system in the province and other countries and the contribution to the status of the university.
