Introducción:

los servicios de urgencias constituyen un eslabón esencial de la atención médica dentro del sistema de salud, conectando las estructuras extra hospitalarias con las hospitalarias.

Objetivo:

describir los principales aspectos epidemiológicos de las consultas pediátricas en el servicio de urgencias del hospital público de Sabancuy durante el último trimestre del año 2022.

Métodos:

se realizó una investigación descriptiva y transversal. La muestra estuvo constituida por 64 pacientes menores de 18 años evaluados por el pediatra en el servicio de urgencias en el período antes mencionado. Se recolectaron de los expedientes clínicos variables, como: edad, sexo, motivos de atención médica, tiempo de evolución de los síntomas, diagnóstico al egreso y necesidad de hospitalización.

Resultados:

se observó predominio de los pacientes en edad preescolar y escolar (31,2 % y 28,1 % respectivamente) y del sexo masculino (56,3 % vs. 43,7 %). La fiebre resultó el motivo de atención médica más frecuente (51,6 %). El 50 % de los pacientes fueron evaluados entre el primer y tercer día de evolución de los síntomas. El 45,3 % de la serie estudiada se egresó del servicio de urgencias con diagnóstico de infección respiratoria aguda. Sólo el 17,2 % de los pacientes tuvo necesidad de hospitalización.

Conclusiones:

las consultas pediátricas en urgencias son frecuentes en preescolares, del sexo masculino y con infecciones respiratorias agudas en evolución. El niño febril constituye una prioridad asistencial, por la premura con la que los padres demandan atención médica.

Objective:

to describe the main epidemiological aspects of pediatric consultations in the emergency department of the Sabancuy public hospital during the last quarter of the year 2022.

Methods:

a descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out. The sample consisted of 64 patients under 18 years of age evaluated by the pediatrician in the emergency department during the aforementioned period. Variables were collected from the clinical records, such as: age, sex, reasons for medical attention, time of evolution of symptoms, diagnosis at discharge and need for hospitalization.

Results:

patients of preschool and school age (31,2 % and 28,1 % respectively) and male sex (56,3 % vs. 43,7 %) predominated. Fever was the most frequent reason for medical attention (51,6 %). Fifty percent of the patients were evaluated between the first and third day of symptom evolution. Of the series studied, 45,3 % were discharged from the emergency department with a diagnosis of acute respiratory infection. Only 17,2 % of the patients required hospitalization.

Conclusions:

pediatric consultations in the emergency department are frequent in preschool children, male and with acute respiratory infections in evolution. The febrile child constitutes a healthcare priority, due to the haste with which parents demand medical attention.
