OTERO-LEYVA, Maday et al. Clinical and histopathological characterization of patients with ovarian cancer. []. , 27, 5   01--2023. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction:

ovarian cancer is a disease that represents a matter of interest in public health, because it is one of the gynecological neoplasms with the highest mortality in several parts of the world. It is considered one of the most frequent gynecological cancers globally, occupying the third place after cervix and uterine body.

Objective:

to clinically and histopathologically characterize patients with ovarian neoplasms.

Methods:

an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out on patients with ovarian cancer diagnosis confirmed by the Pathological Anatomy Department of the "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" University Hospital in the province of Camagüey, in the period between June 2020 and June 2022. We worked with a sample of 55 patients and descriptive statistics were used.

Results:

ovarian neoplasms were frequent in hypertensive women between 60 and 69 years old. Nulliparous and obese patients with lower abdominal pain and increased volume predominated. Most ovarian neoplasms were unilateral and were classified as mucinous cystoadenocarcinomas or superficial papillary adenocarcinomas, stage IIIB or IIIA.

Conclusions:

ovarian cancer is a current global health problem, the earlier the histopathological diagnosis is made, the better the postoperative behavior and follow-up and, therefore, the more chances of survival for patients.
