SUAREZ-CABRERA, Yordanka et al. Clinical and epidemiological characterization of diabetic patients with dyslipidemia. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.2  Epub 01-Mar-2024. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction:

dyslipidemia affects most patients with diabetes mellitus, in whom lipid alteration is often present from the prediabetes stage. However, although it is a modifiable risk factor, it is not always controlled.

Objective:

to clinically and epidemiologically characterize diabetic patients with dyslipidemia.

Methods:

an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, cross-sectional study was carried out with patients attended at the Basic Group No. II, of the University Polyclinic “Luis A. Turcios Lima”, in the period from November 2020 to June 2021. The universe consisted of 53 patients, coinciding with the sample, and descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to the data obtained.

Results:

in the study series, the female sex and the age group 60 to 69 years predominated. Grade II obesity was the most frequent excess malnutrition. Alterations in hematological variables were observed, with hypertriglyceridemia being the most prevalent type of dyslipidemia. Neuropathy and diabetic retinopathy were the most frequent organic affections, with a predominance of moderately functional families. Conclusions: in the study carried out, grade II obesity was the most frequent excess malnutrition among diabetic patients with dyslipidemia. The most frequent organic involvement was diabetic neuropathy.
