HERNANDEZ-ALVAREZ, Betsy et al. Educational intervention on high blood pressure and its prevention in hypertensive patients over 40 years of age in a medical office. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.2 Epub 01-Mar-2024. ISSN 1561-3194.
Introduction:
high blood pressure is a global health problem; In this sense, the need arises to carry out health actions that contribute to the prevention of the disease from the primary level of care.
Objective:
to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on high blood pressure in hypertensive patients over 40 years of age belonging to the family medical office 19 of Morón municipality, Ciego de Ávila.
Methods:
a pre-experimental study was carried out, with a pretest/posttest design, during May 2022 and March 2023. The population consisted of 341 patients and the sample of 135, selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results: there was a predominance of the female sex (57,0 %), the mean age for both sexes were 56,4±11,272 years. In the diagnostic stage, 68,9 % of those surveyed presented an inadequate level of information, with predominance of the categories: treatment of HTN (69,6 %), generalities (63,0 %), and complications (56,3 %); after the educational intervention was carried out, the level of information was raised in 92,6 % of the patients. The McNemar test yielded significant results (p=0,000; p<0,05).
Conclusions:
a statistically significant modification of the information was achieved, so it could be inferred that the strategy was effective.
