Abstract

ESTEVEZ LEYVA, Orisel; MASSO VILLALON, Elina; ABREU AVILA, Rafael  and  BARO BULET, Dilaila. Susceptibility of Chrysopa exterior Navás to Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin Strain LBB-1 in Laboratory Conditions. Fitosanidad [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.1, pp.51-58. ISSN 1562-3009.

The use of biological control for reducing plagues of crops has extended in the whole country, due to the numerous advantages that it brings in economic, ecological and social aspects. Diverse means as entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) Vuillemin and the predator Chrysopa exterior Navás are used inside biological control strategies. For the combined use it should pass through an indispensable previous stage in order to establish the possible negative effects of their interaction by means ecotoxicological studies. In this way this work was realized to evaluate the different development phases susceptibility of predator C. exterior to the entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana in ecotoxicological bioassays under laboratoryconditions. Insects obtained from a laboratory breeding of C. exterior and suspensions of strain LBb-1 at concentrations of 1 x 107 and 1 x 108 spores • mL_1 were used. Assays were made at temperature of 25 ± 1°C and 80 ± 2% of relative humidity. Immature states of natural enemies were submerged in suspensions and the adults were sprayed. The parameter evaluated in eggs was its appearance, mortality was evaluated in larvae, and adults emergency were evaluated in pupae. LBb-1 strain suspensions did not affect any development phases of insect, so both biological controls can be used together for agricultural pest control in production systems.

Keywords : Chrysopa exterior; Beauveria bassiana; susceptibility; ecotoxicological bioassays.
