Resumen

Background: the periodontal disease is one of the most frequent oral diseases in human beings. it occupies the second place among the oral diseases suffered by man. Objective: to describe the behavior of the chronic immunoinflammatory periodontal diseases in patients over 5 years in Sopimpa area, Fomento municipality, in a period between September 2009 and December 2010. Methodología : a descriptive study was carried out with a transversal view. Thepopulation componed a sample of 153 patients. The results were presented in tables of relative and absolute frequencies. The variables were age, sex, and periodontal situation. Results: the age group between 20-59 prevailed; feminine sex was most representative, chronic gingivitis prevailed in the group. Conclusions: It was shown that there was a predomination of the feminine sex, as well as the superficial processes (chronic gingivitis) and the group between 20 and 59 years w3as the most affected.
