Introduction: The knowledge and management of oral diseases constitute the main basis to make people keep their teeth life long . Objective: to determine the knowledge about oral health in patients over 15 years old at “1ro de Marzo” family doctor's office from February to October, 2009. Methodology: An observational and descriptive study was carried out in which the population was composed by all patients who visited the dentist's office (2700), being the sample 201 patients. Results: The group from 35-39 years old represented almost half of the patients prevailing women. The most frequent oral diseases were dental caries and periodontopathies. Past medical history of caries and inadequate oral hygiene were the predominant risk factors. More than half of the patients were evaluated as poor in relation to their knowledge level on the topic. Conclusion: The knowledge level about oral health in those patients who were included in the sample was evaluated as poor.
