Background:

Intrafamily violence affects the physical, psycho-emotional and social health of those who suffer from it.

Objective:

To systematize the behavior of this phenomenon at present.

Development:

The work was based on the bibliographic search and the results of research with Cuban families. It focuses on generalities about intrafamily violence, intrafamily violence as a health problem, intrafamily violence in different sociocultural contexts and general guidelines for its prevention are proposed, useful for the care work, research and teaching work of health professionals.

Conclusions:

Intrafamily violence with its multiple expressions is considered harmful and at present it is not possible to indicate exactly how much it affects the psychological, physical, social and sexual health of the people who suffer from it.
