RINCON ORTIZ, Jean Carlos y MUNOZ, María Fabiana. Hydraulic design of dual drainage systems using the SWMM model. RIHA [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.2, pp.103-117. ISSN 1680-0338.
The hydraulic design of drainage sewers has been performed traditionally using the rational method with uniform flow. This method does not take into account the temporal variability of rainfall and is limited to small watersheds. Therefore, a methodology has been developed for the design of drainage systems in urban areas using software SWMM-5.0, where dual modeling is possible (surface drainage, sewerage) as well as inclusion of time in the analysis and not uniform flow. The methodology was applied in the Copacoa East district, Lara State, Venezuela. The results showed that the method is viable and feasible to implement because it simulates the flow on roads and collectors properly, designs are less expensive and it can quickly analyze multiple scenarios.
