PAZMINO GAVILANEZ, Francisco; HECHAVARRIA DIAZ, Rodney; MORALES FIALLOS, Fabián Rodrigo y LEON MANTILLA, Jorge. Experimental calculation of hydraulic efficiency of rain water drain inlets. riha [online]. 2017, vol.38, n.3, pp. 17-29. ISSN 1680-0338.
This experimental study was conducted at the Laboratory of Hydraulics of the Technical University of Ambato. It was used an experimental platform with a drain inlet in just one side of the road (scale 1: 4). Two cases were considered in order to analyze their hydraulic efficiency, both located in the street. Case 1 consisted of a single drain inlet (reference). Case 2 consisted of two serial drain inlets. Both cases were worked on with a variation of 2 and 4 % in the transverse slope and 0,5 to 12 % in the longitudinal slope. Results showed that placing two serial drain inlets, in general, can achieve higher hydraulic collecting efficiency with respect to the case of a single drain inlet. It was also studied the role of transverse and longitudinal slopes.
