The San Juan catchment is form up of San Agustín, Cañas and San Juan sub-catchment. The simple balance of San Agustín sub-catchment, with an area of ​​267 km2, showed that for the hipper-annual balance of 428,6 hm3 to exist, the sub-catchment must have an additional area of ​​about 55 km2, which generates an additional contribution of 30,5 hm3 to runoff from the basin and is considered to correspond to a significant groundwater contribution. To verify this hypothesis, the groundwater component value was computed by different methods concluding that the additional contribution is given by the value of groundwater component, which is generated by the infiltration of rainfall that occurs in the polje area and the karst zone existent in Aguacate catchment at west of San Agustín - Cañas sub-catchment.
