CAMPOS ACOSTA, Yunisel et al. Behavior of the renal function in patients with diabetic foot ulcers treated with Heberprot-P®. Rev Cubana Angiol Cir Vasc. [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.1, pp.3-11. ISSN 1682-0037.

Introduction: diabetic foot is the most feared vascular complication of diabetes, associated to non-traumatic amputations and disability in the patient, but diabetic nephropathy is another common complication that cannot be neglected. Heberprot-P® is the drug used in this type of ulcers to prevent amputation. Objective: to determine the behavior of the renal function in patients with diabetic foot ulcers treated with Heberprot-P®. Methods: one hundred diabetic patients, regardless of sex, age and type of diabetes, who were admitted to the National Institute of Angiology and Vascular Surgery with diagnosis of diabetic foot, were studied. The renal function of all of them was studied through the glomerular filtration before and eight weeks after treatment with Heberprot-P®. Results: at the beginning of the study, 27 patients (27.00 %) were found to have occult renal disease (glomerular filtration lower than 60 mL/min/1.73 m2). After the treatment, 18 patients (66.67 %) showed improved glomerular filtration. In those patients without previous renal damage, it was observed that 35 (47.95 %) improved their condition and 31 (42.96 %) got worse. It was also found that the glomerular filtration of 5 (16.13 %) of the latter, was less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m2, and the rest (83.87 %) showed reduction but within the normal limits. Conclusions: the renal function of the patients with diabetic foot ulcer really improved after treatment with Heberprot-P®.
