Resumen

DOMINGUEZ BOFILL, Sandra. The impact of an educative intervention in diabetic patients Type II in the parrish Tucunemo´s Valley: 2005. Rev. Med. Electrón. [online]. 2009, vol.31, n.2. ISSN 1684-1824.

An almost- experimental study in diabetic patients was carried out in Tucunemo´s Valley, from January to December 2005, with the objective of evaluating the impact of a previous educative intervention, taking into account some of the main premises of the diabetes mellitus treatment. The study included 30 patients, who received a course of basic information, evidencing the positive appropriation of knowledge about the disease they achieved in the previous investigation. They were followed up in consultations and at home, with results registered on their individual clinical records, and a diabetic education continued in bi-monthly meetings. Among the findings are that all the patients satisfactorily adhere the medical treatment; a progressive and increasing number of the patients reached- during the period- the levels of glucose in blood that are considered normal. A high percent of the patients reached an ideal weight, left smoking, and their cholesterol levels and blood pressure were in normal parameters. Besides that, the number of complications and hospitalizations by diabetes mellitus decompensation was reduced. We concluded that the educative intervention had, among the patients covered, a positive impact in the better comprehension and adhesion to the pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment, and also in the normalization of the clinic and biochemical indicators.
