Resumen

ACHIONG ESTUPINAN, Fernando et al. Prevalence of controlled hypertensive patients. Municipality of Cardenas. 2009. Rev. Med. Electrón. [online]. 2011, vol.33, n.2, pp. 196-202. ISSN 1684-1824.

SUMMARY We carried out an analytic observational study of cross-sectional type, to determine the prevalence of controlled and no controlled hypertensive patients and the systolic and diastolic measures, and also their relationship with some socio-demographic characteristics. The universe was formed by 26 090 hypertensive patients, from the urban stratus of the municipality of Cardenas. The sample was formed by 330 patients randomly selected in two phases. To collect the data we used a survey applied to all the studied patients. The statistic processing was made in Epiinfo 6.04, determining the prevalence rate of controlled and no controlled hypertensive persons with a confidence interval of 95 % and statistic signification of p < 0,05, for socio-demographic variables and the systolic and diastolic measures. 46 % of the surveyed hypertensive patients were controlled, with statistically significant differences in the systolic and diastolic measures between controlled and no controlled patients. No significant association between socio-demographic variables and hypertension control was found.
