^les^aEl ensayo clínico es la metodología idónea para evaluar una terapéutica o intervención en humanos, comúnmente conocido como el estándar de oro. En la década de los años noventa, Matanzas se inserta en la red nacional de ensayos clínicos, donde se han evaluado productos de amplio impacto, coordinados por el Centro Nacional Coordinador de Ensayos Clínicos (CENCEC). Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo con el objetivo de valorar el impacto social de los ensayos clínicos en la provincia de Matanzas durante el período 2005-2012. En el período de análisis se concluyeron 11 ensayos clínicos, y están en ejecución 24, existiendo un total de 11 productos evaluados. El número total de sitios clínicos-ensayos clínicos fue de 9 y participaron un total de 196 investigadores, incluyéndose 443 pacientes en todo el período. Los centros promotores de mayor participación son: el Centro de Inmunología Molecular, el Centro Nacional de Sanidad Agropecuaria y la Oficina Técnica del Ozono y el Centro de Ingeniería Genética y Biotecnología. Las enfermedades para las que se evaluaron medicamentos en los ensayos clínicos fueron: cáncer, distress respiratorio, asma bronquial y prediálisis. Los productos evaluados en ensayos clínicos nacionales están indicados para el cáncer en su mayoría, y la localización más representada es pulmón, otras localizaciones son: próstata, esófago, riñones y mama. La influencia positiva en el Sistema Nacional de Salud se traduce en beneficios como mejoría en los indicadores de salud, cambios en los patrones de atención médica de la enfermedad en que se evaluó el producto, y formación y perfeccionamiento de los recursos humanos que participan.^len^aClinical trial is a methodology suitable to evaluate a therapeutic intervention in human beings, commonly known as the golden standard In the decade of the 90es, the province of Matanzas was inserted in the  clinical trial national net, and there have being evaluated ample impact products  in coordination with the Clinical Trial National Coordinating Center (CENCEC, in Spanish). We developed a retrospective descriptive study with the aim of evaluating the social impact of the clinical trials in the province of Matanzas during the period 2005-2012. In the analyzed period there were finished 11 clinical trials and there are 24 more in course; there are a total of 11 evaluated products. The total number of clinical sites-clinical trial is 9, participating 196 researchers, and 443 patients through the period. The promoting centers with more participation are: the Center of Molecular Inmunology, the National Center of Farming Health, the Ozone Technical Office and the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnologies. The drugs evaluated in the clinical trials were against the following diseases: cancer, respiratory distress, bronchial asthma and predialysis. Most of the products evaluated in national clinical trials are indicated against cancer, and its most representative location is the lungs; other locations are prostate glands, esophagus, kidneys and mammas. The positive influence in the National Health System is expressed in benefits like improvement in health indicators, changes in the medical care patterns of the disease in which the product was evaluated, and formation and improvement of the human resources participating in the trial.
