Background: the development of professional skills in Medicine studies, with a systemic and interdisciplinary character, has guaranteed an adequate conception process. Aim: evaluating professional skills conception in Medicine students. Materials and methods: an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in the period February-March 2015. The universe was formed by 140 first-year students of Medicine studies and the sample was formed by 70 students intentionally chosen. The study was based on the dialectical materialistic method due to its capacity for integrating the qualitative and the quantitative. Methods of the theoretical and empiric level and statistic methods were used. Outcomes: The lack of a systemic approach to the process of professional skills conception in the Medicine studies, the lack of methodological work aimed to this process and the non-active participation of the students were evidenced. Conclusions: in general, there they were identified deficiencies in the conception of professional skills in Medicine students, taking into account the integral trainings general physician should have.
