Insomnia is the most frequently sleep disorder in the population. It is linked to a significant discomfort and an impairment of important areas of the human functioning. The correct diagnosis of this disorder is important with the objective of prescribing an adequate treatment for improving the life quality of the patients suffering it. The aim of this article is offering an up-dated review contributing to increase and update the information on this topic. The authors carried out a review of articles published mainly during the last five years, and the results were systematized for contributing to the professionals´ upgrading.
