Abstract
PRIETO RAMIREZ, Doris María. Globalization: Effects on the appraisal pattern change of society and medicine. Rev Hum Med [online]. 2002, vol.2, n.2. ISSN 1727-8120.
Globalization and its consequences for society are analyzed, based on the theses that have been presented in the International Meetings of Economists on Globalization and Development in Havana. Globalization is the cause of an appraisal pattern change, which is expressed through a crisis of moral, cultural and political values; and through the loss of traditional values in human communities, starting from the imposition of the transnational companies ' values. The consequences of this phenomenon for the medical activity are analyzed: deterioration of traditional moral values caused by capitalist privatization, belief that technological values are more important than ethical values, emphasis in the biologicist and healing character of medicine, etc. For all this, deep social changes are needed to revert the prevailing axiological pattern
