An important point in the development of the nexus science - technology - society was necessary so that they could become object of metascientific attention, so its relationships, tensions and contradictions became evident. Science and technology did not always have the same repercussion in the social environment. As a result of their increasing importance especially from the XIX century on, and through the processes of professionalization and institutionalization of science fostered by capitalist production relationships, science and technology occupy every time a bigger space in the social life, which has conditioned the necessity to study their interrelations. This work will expose the necessity and the socio- historical foundations of social studies, as well as their expression in the field denominated Science Technology and Society (STS). The topic of science was the one chosen to carry out the theoretical treatment, always keeping in mind that, any approach to this topic should incorporate the current tendency to stress its indiferenciation with technology by means of the technoscience concept. After that, a concept that allows an approach to the scientific and technological activity will be presented, as well as, their social conditions and results: professionals ' thinking style. To stress the significance of this theory of thinking style and social studies in general to appraise medical activity as a technoscientific form of activity, will be the final purpose
