A conceptual and methodological analysis of Psychiatry as a science is made, taking the Cuban psychiatrists' criteria as a starting point, referring to it as a branch of the Medical Sciences, in which the object of study is the mental illness or the process health-mental illness, being its actions the diagnosis, treatment, ethiology and pathogenesis, rehabilitation and prevention, as well as its epidemiological study that is related to the social and interdisciplinary levels. Starting with redirecting Psychiatry towards the community, a reflection is made of the meaning and implications of this science. It is documented the application of the Community Mental Health Attention Model that is applied through the community Centers of Mental Health, which constitute the cornerstone of the Cuban model of community attention. Thus, community Psychiatry represents the new paradigm of current Cuban Psychiatry. It is recognized that the philosophical foundation that sustains current Cuban Psychiatry is the Marxist-Leninist theory
