In the municipality of Marcano, Nueva Esparta, Venezuela, the undergraduate medical education presents imperfections basically caused by an inadequate training of professors, who carry out their performance inefficiently because of a lack of knowledge about teaching means. Therefore, a characterization of professors´ teaching, taking into account students´ opinions, is necessary. In Marcano, a retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out with 12 Cuban doctors who work as professors and 34 Venezuelan students of Community Integrative Medicine. Results showed professors´ poor teaching experience and communicative competence, as well as faults with the use of teaching aids and evaluation methods.
