From February 2009 to February 2010, a quasi-experimental educational intervention was carried out at Camagüey’s Previsora University Polyclinic to increase elderly patients’ knowledge about hypertension. Out of a universe of 82, the sample comprised 38 patients who were surveyed to identify their learning needs concerning the illness. After receiving an educational program, patients answered a second survey to confirm effectiveness. Results showed an increase of correct answers about risk factors and treatment of the illness. At the end of the study, most of he patients were graded as good. The latter validated the usefulness of the intervention.
