A new medical educational model, which appointed polyclinics as its main scenery, began in the academic course 2004-2005. A longitudinal descriptive study was carried out to assess the results of the model’s first formative cycle at Camagüey’s Julio Antonio Mella Polyclinic. The universe comprised those who graduated in July 2010. Students’ records were examined and students, professors and tutors were interviewed. Despite the difficulties arisen during the implementation of the model, none of the initially registered deserted the career course. The class took examinations and participated in scientific events. Both students and professors expressed good opinions. Owing to its results, the first formative cycle was satisfactory.
