RAMIREZ LOPEZ, Alain; OLAZABAL BARZAGA, Inalvys; SANTANA PADRON, Risela  e  CEDENO RODRIGUEZ, Taniana. Socio-sanitary characterization of pregnant women with periodontal diseases for the prevention of preterm births. Rev Hum Med [online]. 2024, vol.24, n.3  Epub 29-Out-2024. ISSN 1727-8120.

Introduction:

Oral health care for pregnant women is necessary to guarantee the quality of the woman's transition through the pregnancy period, where the influence of some socio-health determinants modulate the appearance of the disease. The consequences related to these determinants corroborate the association between periodontal disease, premature births and low birth weight. The objective was to characterize pregnant women with periodontal diseases from a socio-health perspective to prevent preterm births.

Methods:

A descriptive cross-sectional study with a mixed approach was carried out. With a universe of 135 patients and a sample of 92 selected through simple random sampling. The primary data collection model was created through the family health clinical history of the National Stomatology Program. The investigation was carried out in the period from january 2018 to july 2023.

Results:

In the socio-health characterization of pregnant women with periodontal disease in the Ernesto Che Guevara health area of Santa Cruz del Sur, the second trimester of pregnancy predominated (60.7 %), curative care for periodontal disease prevailed (65 %), periodontitis was the most influential risk factor (40.3 %) and stress was the most prevalent psychosocial factor (40.3 %).

Discussion:

The results were reviewed and compared with con studies at a national and global level, whose effect on the subject was in favor of achieving full-term births from the prevention of periodontal diseases in pregnant women.
