PANEQUE RAMOS, Ena Rosa; ALONSO CUERVO, René  e  MORA LOPEZ, Idania. Neurohypophisis  and Insipid Diabetes: A description of a case. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2007, vol.6, n.1. ISSN 1729-519X.

The histological characteristics of the Neuro hypophysis are described as well as its morphological functions related to the hypothalamus. One of the hormones elaborated in the hypothalamus and carried through the hypothalamic Neurohypophisiary brush until its store place in the neuro hypophysis is the vasopresine. This hormone is also called anti diuretic hormone and has among its main functions to allow the re absorption of water in the collecting tubes and distal tubes of the kidneys to concentrate urine. The shortage or deficit of antidiuretic hormones provokes the elimination of a great volumen of hypotonic diluted and tasteless urine; this disorder is known as insipid diabetes. It is described the case of an Insipid 30 year old female patient with a past history of a cronic mielocitic leukemia in her final stage who was also presenting at the moment polyuria (3to 7 lts in 24 hours). Se is referred by the hematologist to the endocrine valoration and after measuring density and diuresis within 48 hours, a low density plyuric polidipsic syndrome is diagnosed. The patient is treated with vasopresine 3 times weekly. The patient got better from her ID picture but she died because of her leukemia.
