Abstract

FIGUEREDO VILLA, Katiuska. Palliative care: a vital option for patients with breast cancer. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.4. ISSN 1729-519X.

Palliative cares is a model of health care that improves the quality of life of patient with lethal diseases. Despite the large quantity of literature on palliative cares, very little evidence of its uses has been found in community nursing. The purpose of this descriptive qualitative article was shows evidence of palliative care applied to community nursing practice to improve breast cancer patient’s well-being. A research of the specialized literature was developed. A great amount of information was collected about the interdisciplinary teams as main cell-work for palliative care delivery. Also, experts were consulted as a reliable source of information about the practical applications of palliative cares. Palliative care in primary settings was not reported as a feasible action. Further research is required to establish if palliative care is recommended to treat advanced breast cancer patients in primary care nursing practice.
