A transversal retrospective, descriptive, observational investigation was performed, with the purpose of describing the behavior of primary pterigyum in patients of the Ophthalmologic Centre of San Cristobal, Alta Verapaz , Guatemala during the period of February to March 2008, the universe of patients was the 332 patients operated of pterigyum in this period and the sample was the 23 patients that accomplished the established inclusion criteria. The information was collected from the individual clinical charts of the patients; descriptive statistics were utilized for their analysis. The information was presented in forms of tables and the ethical aspects were taken into consideration. It was found that the most frequent diagnostic form was the active exam and questioning ; the patients more affected were males in the age groups of 30- 39 years and those of 40 to 49 years; farmers were more related with this entity , the surgical technique most utilized was the the removal with conjuntival autoplasty.
