CANCIANO CHIRINO, Ernesto; CRUZ SUAREZ, Diuveidys y BLANCO LOPEZ, Adrián. Epidemiology, clinic and therapeutic evolution using verapamilo in patients with acute supraventriular tachyarrhythmia. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.4. ISSN 1729-519X.
An investigation was done defining clinical epidemiology and final outcomes in patients with supraventricular arrhythmias utilizing Verapamilo; for two years in the Intensive Care Unit of Ivan Portuondo Hospital in San Antonio de los Baños, Habana. Particular interest we had in age, sex, frequent arrhythmias, symptoms, according to the symptomatic period previous to treatment, adverse effects taking in consideration dose and final outcome. Study: Controlled double blind trial randomly selecting 100 patients with an EKG diagnosing (SVA) (Supraventricular arrhythmia). There were differences of ages between sexes with a minor global media among men of 58.3 years with no correlation, according to the Spearman test. Auricular fibrillation was the most prevalent arrhythmia ( 60%) in patients with palpitations (48%), which appeared primarily before the 72 hours (6%). Bradicardia and hypotension were the most frequent adverse effects depending on dose. The 75% of patients had a favorable evolution, being Verapamilo a safe and convenient therapeutic option, potentially effective depending on the dose and the previous cardiovascular state of the patient.
