PENON VIVAS, Pedro A; PEREGRINO, Jesús  y  CASTANEDA BARBAN, Rafael Angel. Evaluation of the thechniques for the repairing of partial nose defects. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.4. ISSN 1729-519X.

The nose bridge is a structure of an outmost importance in esthetics and harmony of the face, as well as from the functional point of view. Its position makes it more vulnerable to different morbid accidents, being more susceptible to cancerous and traumatic lesions. The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the different techniques of surgical reconstruction of the partial nose defects in our service in the period from July 2005 to December 2006. An observational descriptive and transversal study was done in 32 patients with partial nose defects (PND) who were submitted to surgical treatment. The most frequent cause of the PND was the pathological one (93.8%). The surgical technique most employed was the one of the patch (68.7%), followed by graft (21.9%). The most utilized patch was the nose lip one (52%) applied mostly to defects in the lateral wall. The transoperatory accidents produced were hemorrhage and debridement of tissues, which were only present in the patch modality, meanwhile the complications were necrosis and bruise formation, mostly found in the graft modality. During the evaluation period, the patients evolved with a real favorable tendency.
