Abstract

ALFONSO DELIS, Odalys; MESA HERRERA, María Elena  and  CEDENO CORREDERA, Alicia. Giant pneumatocele: A clinical case. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp.181-187. ISSN 1729-519X.

We describe a clinical case of a 2 years old patient who was admitted in our hospital for a complicated pneumonia of the left lung and pleural effusion which during the evolution of the disease developed a giant lung cavity. He received treatment with cefotaxime, vancomicin and ciprofloxacin, percutaneous drainage technique was done to evacuate the cavity and the patient had a successful evolution. We made a revision about this entity that is a complication frequently associated to staphylococci pneumonia although others agents can produce it .We think that is important to know that this disease is not frequently in our environment but we have to consider this complication because the evolution of it can throughout several months even years and if the physicians do not made a accurate pursuit of the patient it could unroll a fatal event.

Keywords : Lung cavity; pneumonia; complication and children.
