OLAZABAL GARCIA, Enrique Alberto et al. Complications of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography in emergency digestive. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.4, pp.465-475. ISSN 1729-519X.

Background. ERCP is a very effective technique for treating obstruction of the biliary and pancreatic urgency, but it is not without risks for the patient. Methods. We performed a descriptive study of retrospective and cross-sectional in 114 emergency ERCP performed in the period 2008-2009 in the CNCMA in order to know the complications that occurred while performing this endoscopic procedure.Results. The age group most affected was 60 to 69 years (25.4%) and female predominant (64.9%). Obstructive jaundice (37%), acute cholangitis (31%), post-surgical injury of the biliary tract (24%) and pancreatitis (8%) were the causes of ERCP indication of urgency in that order. Gallstones (68%) constituted the main finding of the lesion followed by post-urgical bile duct (13%). The Bleeding (2%) was the complication presented related endoscopic procedure, whereas hypertension (27%) and respiratory epression (8%) came in non-ERCP.Conclusions. Knowledge of the diseases associated with initial patient chart prior to ERCP and its management is mportant to prevent complications during the test.
