Abstract

Introduction: Acute otitis media is very frequent in children and they suffer it once or more during the first year of life. Objectives:To describe some of the main epidemiological characteristics of acute otitis media in children under one year old. Methods: It was carried out a transversal and descriptive study in 91 children at the children's University hospital in Centro Habana municipality in the period September 2009 - July 2011. A survey concerning risk factors of this disease was made and statistical data such as causes and frequency of this disease were applied in software excel. Results: There was a prevalence of this disease in male children. Greatest morbidity was found in group of children over six months old prevailing fever and Irritability. The associated risk factors more frequent were: Previous acute breathing Infection, bad nasal hygiene and being a passive smoker. Conclusions: Children's acute otitis media is a disease of multifactor occurrence.
