Introduction:

In the quality assurance of university studies, self-evaluation plays an essential role and the methodological design for its development is a most.

Objective:

To recommend a methodology for the development of self-evaluation in the medical studies.

Material and Methods:

A development research carried out at the University of Medical Sciences of Cienfuegos from July to December 2018 is presented. The methodology for making the proposal assumes, as elements: the objective, rationale, conceptual and procedural framework, graphic representation of the proposal and recommendations for its implementation.

Results:

The methodology aims at developing a systematic self-evaluation in the medical studies, prioritizing the attention context where the training process takes place, directing and improving responsibility. The methodology is based on philosophical and sociological points of view as well as points of view on the role of medical education. It also includes concepts and assumed categories as well as legal support. The development of self-evaluation in the medical studies is conceived in four stages (Planning, Execution, Control and Adjustment) with specific objectives structured by phases and procedures.

Conclusions:

The study and analysis of theoretical referents allows the development of a methodology based on solid foundations, providing the development of self-evaluation contextualized within the needs and particularities of the medical studies.
