Theoretical-methodological insufficiencies in the evaluation of communicative competence limit the obtaining of characterizing and evaluative information on its development in future education professionals. In this sense, the objective is to specify the foundations of this process to contribute to the continuous improvement of the changes developed by the Luis Vargas Torres de Esmeraldas Technical University in the use of the competency approach for the training process. Methods such as analysis-synthesis, content analysis and document review were used. The results explain a component that feeds back into the quality of the formation of communicative competence.
