This paper provides an approach to the protection and conservation of the cultural heritage of the university and its relation with national defense, taking into consideration those subject included in the discipline Preparation for Defense, devoted to technical sutidies at the José Antonio Echeverría Higher Polytechnic Institute. The main aim is to show the importance of having a wide knowledge about the cultural heritage in the formation of values as well as the need to preserve the identity of the university community and the country defense.
