Abstract

MATAMOROS TUMA, Mabel; GUTIERREZ MAIDATA, René; ROUCO MENDEZ, Alexis  and  COLLADO BALDOQUIN, Natalí. Design, research and formation. Experiences in undergraduate students’ thesis. au [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.1, pp.116-125. ISSN 1815-5898.

The problems related to research in the design field, and to the doctoral formation of the faculty, are themes often debated in schools of architecture and specialized publications. This article presents some of the results obtained in the search for solutions to this conflict through the links between student projects, specially undergraduate students’ thesis, and the faculty’s research system. The results of the projects completed so far have provided an updated view of knowledge specific to planning and design of public buildings, and of the perfecting of academic project methods, laying the ground for future debates about possible roads for Cuban architecture. The author concludes that this method contributes to the development of production of knowledge in both the architectural design field, and in the scientific formation of professors.

Keywords : design research; architectural design; doctoral projects; undergraduate students’ thesis; formation.
