GONZALEZ COURET, Dania. Current Trends in Latin American Architecture and Urbanism, 1990-2014. au [online]. 2015, vol.36, n.2, pp. 128-138. ISSN 1815-5898.

This review presents the author’s personal reflections on observed trends in Latin American architecture and urbanism, during the last two decades. It departs from a premise of unity in variety, observed across the continent as the primary factor which conditions its built environment and the two predominant types of architecture. Subsequently, it discusses the current situation of those Latin American cities which are the planet’s most urbanized and violent, with a view to defining, classifying and reflecting upon the principal trends in contemporary Latin American architecture and urbanism, exemplified through selected works from various countries. The paper intends to organize, systematize and interpret the aforementioned architectural and urban phenomena in order to facilitate access to this disperse and at times unpublished information, especially for undergraduate students, but also for professionals and the general public.

Palabras clave : architecture; urbanism; Latin America; current trends.
