Abstract

COLLAZO SOLAR, Laura  and  COSTA MONTIE, Angel. On the performance of three phase induction motors with different voltage levels. Energética [online]. 2018, vol.39, n.1, pp.31-37. ISSN 1815-5901.

The three phase induction motor is the most importantelectrical energy consumer in industrial and tertiary sectors. On account of this fact, it is very important to know how the behavior of this motor will be affected when the electrical environment is not the standard one. One of the most important electrical variable to assess this environment is the voltage. This paper is intended to analyze how, when the voltage applied to the motor changes, its most important performance variables react. These variables are: efficiency, power factor, reactive power, current and speed. The well known per phase equivalent circuit of the motor is utilized and a method to identify its parameters in a simple way is described. Solving the equivalent circuit for different voltage values varying the slip, it is possible to construct the performance characteristic of the motor and evaluate its behavior with variable voltage levels. This assessment is very important on account of the fact that, very frequently, the voltage is not the rated one.
