The objective of the work was to program the generator preventive maintenance of a power system with an optimization model that minimizes the cost of operation and maintenance. A quadratic function is used to model the operation cost of the units, and for the maintenance a linear function, both depend on the demand of the system. The programming proposals and combinatorial that guarantee the lowest cost of operation in the unit commitment are generated with a particle swarm optimization algorithm. The nonlinear multi-variable function with constrained that results in the modeling is optimized by a Quasi-Newton sequential quadratic programming method that approximates the Hessian in each iteration by finite differences. The work shows how the reserve margin affects the scheduling of preventive maintenance of a power system with the presence of unconventional sources of energy
