In the rural part of the Manabí province, cooking food is done using wood, with the risk of forest degradation and human health. The objective is to study the potential of biomass derived from cattle for use in the family context. The work aims to present the results of an evaluation of the biomass potential derived from cattle breeding, as part of the study in the initial stage of the project. The article is integrated by an introduction, materials and methods, the results, their discussion and the conclusions. The deductive method was applied and the literature review and statistical analysis as research techniques to define the biogas potential in the studied area. It is concluded that the use of biogas in the family environment can meet the energy needs for cooking food of the peasant family.
