The selection of batteries to guarantee the uninterrupted operation of telecommunications centres requires specialized personnel. It is a complex process that impacts on the execution of projects. The present work proposes a function programmed in MATLAB, for the automatic selection of the ideal model of lead-acid battery for backup power supply of communication centers, from catalog data tables. From these data, the logarithmic distribution was identified as the one that characterizes the autonomy time curves as a function of the discharge current. The corresponding regression models were fitted and the resulting equations were used to select the appropriate number and capacity of batteries to support specific loads, in periods of time not specified by the manufacturer. In this way, a tool is achieved that contributes to the training of designers and operators of communication networks.
