Abstract

GARCIA GIRO, Alberto et al. Desarrollo de un estimulador eléctrico transcraneal para monitoreo intraoperatorio. EAC [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.1, pp.1-17. ISSN 1815-5928.

The transcranial electrical stimulators are medical equipment (or part of medical equipment) used in surgical acts that put at risk the motor nerve pathways to monitor the structural and functional state of these nerves. In the present work we designed the electronic hardware of the functional blocks that make up a transcranial electrical stimulator. The relative tasks to the microcontroller were programmed. The developed stimulator is capable of delivering rectangular pulses with a voltage amplitude of up to 1000 V and current intensity of 1 A, with errors lower than 5 % regarding the theoretical values. The actuator system inhibited the generation of stimuli when detecting of a potentially dangerous event. These results show that the generated stimuli correspond to the proposed equipment characteristics.

Keywords : Motor evoked potential; neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring; transcranial electrical stimulator.
