ACOSTA PRIETO, Juan Lázaro et al. Psychophysiological and psychological indicators to evaluate mental work in flight coordinators. Ing. Ind. [online]. 2024, vol.45, n.1, pp. 47-60. Epub 20-Feb-2025. ISSN 1815-5936.
Mental workload is the cognitive effort that a worker must make when faced with the cognitive demands of the job. The general objective of this research is to carry out a study of mental workload in operations coordinators at an airport in the province of Matanzas, Cuba. A four-stage procedure was designed, where the psychophysiological and psychological indicators were used to evaluate cognitive capacities, the ESCAM was applied to determine cognitive demands, the Knowledge Work Intensity method and ISTAS-21 to evaluate psychosocial risks. As a result, all workers showed at least one indicator of expected behavior in the presence of mental workload, and four of them showed variations of three indicators. Intervention is needed to balance the cognitive abilities of workers to the cognitive demands of the job and to ensure healthy work environments.
