SIERRA-VARGAS, Fabio-Emiro; GUERRERO-FAJARDO, Carlos-Alberto y MEJIA-BARRAGAN, Fabiola. Determining cook efficiency using wood as fuel in rural area of Usme, Bogotá. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2014, vol.17, n.2, pp. 185-194. ISSN 1815-5944.
The research sought to establish the conditions of firewood cooking in the rural area of Usme - Bogota. Fieldwork was conducted to identify the cooking woody species, which were characterized and their energy potential identified; surveys were used to recollect socio-economic information of the population and direct experimentation was conducted for determining the efficiency of cooking. Woody species used for experimentation processes were: Eucalyptus, Pine and woodworking wastes, especially wood bend with Formica. The study found that today many families buy firewood, due to less time for collecting and distances they must walk. Actually, the most used cooking species are Eucalyptus, Pine and scrap of carpentry including Formica, the last one has not been reported as fuel for domestic cooking in Colombia yet, and finally it was determined that stoves have low energy efficiency.
