Abstract
DE ASSUNCAO-NASCIMENTO, Juliano-Chitue; LAFARGUE-PEREZ, Francisco; REYES-SEMANAT, Luís and DIAZ- VELASQUEZ, Manuel. Physicochemical and tribological properties of graphite grease based on Jatrophacurcas L oil and lithium soap. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2014, vol.17, n.3, pp.255-263. ISSN 1815-5944.
Lubricating greases are considered as colloidal dispersions of a thickener in a lubricating fluid. The vegetable oils are widely used in many formulations of greases. In this paper were determined the physicochemical and tribological properties of graphite grease based on Jatropha curcas L vegetable oil and lithium soap (JC1G5). Alpha tocofherol acetate and graphite were used as antioxidant and extreme pressure additives respectively. The grease JC1G5 showed a black color, a dropping point of 140 oC, appropriate magnitude of copper corrosion and consistency NLGI Grade 1. Lubrication performance of the grease JC1G5 was tested using the 4-ball wear tester and timken tribometer tester. Results indicate that the grease JC1G5 has tribological properties comparable to that of mineral oil base lithium grease.
