Abstract

SUAREZ-DOMINGUEZ, Edgardo-Jonathan et al. Rheological coefficient Study of an extra heavy crude oildosage with a viscosity bioreducer. Ingeniería Mecánica [online]. 2015, vol.18, n.2, pp.87-92. ISSN 1815-5944.

An analysis of rheological adjustment coefficients is here presented, based on the experimental determination of the shear stress for a wide range of velocity gradients, applied to extra heavy oil crude with a viscosity up to 40000 cP at 25 °C. A series of tests were performed for various temperatures and concentration values of a viscosity reducer. It was found that at temperatures below 25 °C the crude behavior isnon-Newtonian, of the shear thinning type, while at temperatures above 30 °C behavior tends to be Newtonian, associated to the lower shear stresses required. This latter behavior is achieved at low temperatures too, when adding the viscosity reducer, showing the positive effect of this additive (BRV), which decreases the shear stress required to set the oil crude in motion.

Keywords : crude oil rheology; extra heavy oil; viscosity bioreducer.
